DR CHACKO CYRIAC
With qualifications from 5 countries and with training from the very best centres in India and abroad, Dr Cyriac returned to India to set up the first Plastic Surgery Unit in the 600 bedded Lourdes Hospital, in Kochi, Kerala, India. Over the years, the broad-based training he received in Plastic Surgery helped him apply the principles and develop protocols in the various aspects of Plastic Surgery. Though tempted to leave behind reconstructive surgeries and to focus on Cosmetic Surgery alone, Dr Cyriac was careful to not let himself narrow down to this narrow field as he firmly believes that the principles of reconstructive surgery hold true in cosmetic surgery as well. “One cannot be a good cosmetic surgeon if one does not know and practice the techniques and principles of reconstructive surgery,” he claims. Therefore, while leading one of the largest hair transplant practices in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, he continues to head the Plastic Surgery Department at Lourdes Hospital.
The innovative streak in him enabled him to develop newer techniques in several aspects of Plastic Surgery, be it reconstructive surgery or hair transplant surgery.
The prestigious Sam C Bose and Saroja Bose Award, 2016, for the best audit and research paper by the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India was a recognition of the high standard of his work at the National level. Earlier on he had won the Cooper Foundation Fellowship Grant for the purpose of pursuing clinical and research work in Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada. He was also selected for the Healthy Kids International Fellowship Grant for advanced training in Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada.
